Kahlua is a coffee based drink with a kick. It’s best served on ice, mixed with three quarters milk and one quarter Kahlua. You can also follow any direction for a ‘mud slide’ to place it in. It makes an excellent addition to any holiday party, or even a pick me up after a stressful gathering. Keeps fresh best in the fridge, and can be stored for a couple of weeks. Keep in mind, this drink can also been given as a gift, putting a beautified mason jar to good use. Note: this recipe is rather strong. The alcohol content may be increased or reduced accordingly.
Home-Made Holiday Kahlua:
Prep time, up to three hours.
- Dash of vanilla
- Three cups sugar
- Twelve tbsp instant coffee (preferably Folders)
- Three cups water
- Half a 5th of Absolute Vodka
Mix all ingredients aside from the vodka in a large pot, and stir constantly while bringing it to a boil. Reduce heat to a low simmer. Let simmer for fifteen to twenty minutes, stirring occasionally. The mixture will be syrupy and stick easily, so make sure to keep it from settling at the bottom of pot.
Next let cool completely. This is possibly the most important part. If the alcohol is added to soon, it will cook out. Do not place in the fridge to cool (it will clump), just cover and leave it out.
Once the mixture is completely cooled, add in the Vodka. Stir well and enjoy!
