Faded clothing, shoes worn thin,
People say I’m less than them.
Please step up, I need a friend.
A violent family, don’t get much rest,
Forced from bed, like a dog at best.
Please step up, you’re kinder than them.
Sustenance comes from my buildings trash,
A body malnourished, no veggies, no meat.
Please step up, help me to eat.
Coming to school in hopes of escape,
Singled out here, ridiculed, teased.
Please step up, don’t laugh at me.
Sometimes I act out, sometimes I cry,
Stopped pleading for help to whomever’s above.
Please step up, I need your love.
Extremely intelligent, can be funny too,
Not a soul knows, no one will see.
Please step up, help me find me.
Forced inner strength, yet oh so fragile,
I fear all that’s left is fear and hate,
Please step up, don’t leave me to fate.
